On the composition and inner meaning
The outer sense of my statues is so obvious that the viewer doesn't have to realize any deeper meaning behind it, at the core of the statue's construction. Nevertheless, many of my compositions have a certain proportional principle, on its basis the consistency of opposites is organized. I do so because I believe that this is the whole world's principe, and my task is to bring a new sculpture upon the earth so that it does not disturb but express this principle. Even a torso should seem to be a fraction of that world's wholeness.
To a layman Saint Martin is an example of the invisible composite intention. It is built on an equilateral triangle with its vertexes in the rider's (Martin's) head, in the eye of the beggar and in the eye of the horse. The horse bows to the beggar, because the animal doesn't think much, but knows, so he bows to Christ, who then speaks to Martin in a dream.
